Swimming vs gym, for improving your fitness
Swimming is a great aerobic exercise that improves cardiovascular fitness and also tones the muscles in your body. People of any age can do the aquatics exercise in swimming pools, as children under 16 are not allowed to use the gym for heavy exercises, swimming can help smooth and tone their body up, till they are old enough to get inside the gym and build up muscles.
There are plenty of exercises, that can be done in a swimming pool to work different parts of your body such as abdominal, arms, legs, shoulders, back and others. To do this exercise as the gym, you will probably have to hit different machines and will have to work very hard. In swimming you can achieve working those muscles and also cardio by just one stroke.
But if you are a first timer or have come back after lengthy time off then you shouldn’t over do it at the swimming pool or the gym as overdoing can cause some serious damage to your body/health. I believe swimming definitely is one of the best form of exercise for everyone and anyone.
Swimming is also used for aquatic therapy, for people who have asthma, broken bones, cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes, joint replacement, multiple sclerosis, spinal injuries, stress reduction, weight management and chronic pain of muscles/joints.
Just to clear things up aquatic exercise and aquatic therapy are two different types of regime. Aquatic therapy focuses on techniques and healing of your body, whereas aquatic exercise is done when you are already in good health and focusing on strength, weight loss and endurance.
This should give you an idea on what kind of exercise to do in a swimming pool, if it is to lose weight, body healing or edurance.
Good thing about this is you can do all this at home, if you have a swimming pool. Most people these days built inground swimming pools as an investment. Keep in mind there are swimming pool equipments and swimming pool chemicals to look at for the maintenance of your swimming pool.
