Would you like Basil Fawlty to Run Your Hotel?
I was thinking back to the good old days with a great friend of mine the other day. We got chatting about some of the fantastic old comedy shows that we used to tune into back in the 1970′s
She was telling me that one of her favourite shows used to be Fawlty Towers, which course starred the fantastic John Cleese.
I couldn’t disagree with her as this show was British comedy at its very best and certainly caused a huge deal of laughter, something that sadly doesn’t seem to happen so much nowadays.
We got onto the subject of who starred in the show and actually had a bit of a row about John Cleese and his real life wife. My friend was adamant that John Cleese was married to Prunella Scales, who played his wife in the show, but I knew he was in fact married to Connie Booth who played Polly the maid.
It’s strange that such a silly conversation can get so out of hand, but you know what it’s like when 2 women think they are right, nobody likes to back down and admit that they are wrong.
In the end we made the joint decision that the only way to find out which one of was right was to carry out a search in Google. Well of course, it turned out that I was right, which didn’t go down very well with my friend.
She said that perhaps I should think about booking a self catering Torquay holiday. I said that I would rather visit some of the hotels in Devon in the hope that one of them might actually have a real life Hotel owner like Basil Fawlty.
If you fancy a holiday in Torquay there are plenty of great activities you could join in with. One of my friends who organises bowling holidays for her Club was pretty impressed with Torquay during a recent visit. She loved the place so much that she has already booked up for 2 tournaments for her bowling team for next year.
I wonder if she is hoping to get a hotel owner like Basil Fawlty, at least there would never be a dull moment!!
